Our History and Community
Halifax Skating Club, founded in December 1862, is one of the longest-running skating clubs in Canada and has been an important part of the Halifax community for over 160 years. What began as a small skating community has grown into a club that now supports more than 650 members each year across Learn to Skate, STARSkate, Academy, and competitive programs.
Throughout its history, Halifax Skating Club has remained focused on creating a welcoming and supportive environment where skaters of all ages and abilities can learn, grow, and enjoy the sport. From first steps on the ice to high-level competitive pathways, the club is proud to support each skater’s individual journey.
Beyond skating skills, Halifax Skating Club is built on community. The club values teamwork, leadership, inclusion, and positive experiences both on and off the ice. Guided by our PIE values of Passion, Inclusion, and Enjoyment, we strive to create a space where skaters and families feel connected, supported, and proud to be part of the HSC community.
