Volunteering

The Halifax Skating Club is run entirely by volunteers and we are always looking to expand our base. Aside from filling the various positions on the executive, volunteers assist by playing music for the skaters, helping with the CanSkate programs providing baked goods for events such as Skatefest, and as group parents helping with our annual Demo Day and many other little things essential to the day-today running of the Club.

What qualifications do I need?

All you need is an interest in skating, a desire to help our organization and a few hours that you can donate on a monthly basis.

How much time do I need to donate?

The amount of time depends on your area of interest and expertise as well as the need of the club. We have volunteers who donate anywhere from 20-25 hours per week. We also have volunteers who donate a couple of hours per month. We also have volunteers who help out occasionally, such as with the planning of special events.

What would I be doing?

This depends on your skills and interest as well as in consultation with the club. HSC is always looking for club executive members, special event organizers. We are also looking for people to assist in the organization of our annual Demo Dayt, help out at competitive events and so on. How you can assist is contingent on the limits of your imagination.

What can I do since my time is so limited?

Don't let this be a problem. We want to tap your interest and marry it with our needs. As a result, we will work with your schedule.

How do I become a volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering please email us

There's a job for everyone! Some immedidate needs are listed below.

Demo Day

At the end of the Winter session (usually before March break) is our annual Demo Day. Many tasks are necessary to put on this event from supervising the younger skaters immediately before and after their performances, playing the music, running the 50/50 draw. All of these tasks must be done by volunteers in order for the show to happen.

Music Room Attendant

Many people are intimidated by the thought of having to play music. "What if I get it wrong?" & "I don't know anything about that stuff." are comments we hear all time. This is actually one of the best jobs there is at the Club. We will provide you all the required training and will stay with you as long as required to ensure you are comfortable with the job.
